Sky Academy & Eden Project Nursery, Cornwall
JD Civil Group have successfully carried out the groundworks and external infrastructure package for the Sky Academy and Eden Project Nursery at an educational facility being constructed as part of a larger residential development in close proximity to St. Austell, Cornwall. The works were undertaken on behalf of Reds10. The project represents part of a large-scale (£8m+), multi-education development that has been identified by the Department of Education (DoE) as a "pathfinder" project; demonstrating the UK's potential to build sustainable schools using new construction methods.
Project Details
The education facility comprises a single storey, two classroom primary school for up to 210 students and a 26 place nursery. Both are intended to serve the increasing population of the surrounding area due to an increase in local housing availability.
The project is believed to be one of the first Net Zero Carbon Schools to operate in the UK, utilising a combination of both Low-Carbon Design Principles and Off-Site Modular Construction Techniques.
JD Civil Group were responsible for providing enabling works, groundworks, and external infrastructure required to allow the building and commissioning of the modular school buildings and ultimately provide full site functionality.
